Keep up the great work!

Rehab has been an amazing chapter in this whole crazy ordeal. It is great to see the excitement and enthusiasm my dad puts in to all of his therapy. He is really anxious to move forward with building his muscles and getting stronger so that he can resume some sense of normalcy. The other day before I left he had walked 174 feet...what an accomplishment! He wanted me to make sure that I told people he is not walking, but the truth of the matter is that he is! Of course he uses a walker and they are little itsy bitsy steps. He doesn't consider that walking because most of the weight is on his arms. It was very impressive and the rest of us are considering it walking! He also went up and down 4 steps which took every single ounce of energy that he had in his body. He said it was like climbing Mount Everest. After that he took a 2 hour nap. He has gained about 10 pounds in 10 days and he is starting to look like himself again. His legs now have some muscle tone to them. He still think his arms look like "tomato poles", but he really is getting stronger everyday. We have been told that he probably will be discharged the week after next and will have to do home therapy for a while before he can start outpatient therapy. It will be too aggressive for him to do the outpatient stuff at first, so we will have to have a physical therapist come to the house.

Joe, I am continually touched by who you are and how you are making sour, rotten lemons into a sweet lemonade! Be patient. You have come a long way in three months, sometimes hard to hold on to your miraculous progress! But don't forget, you are not alone--God and your friends and family are walking every step of the way with you.
Love,
Bev

Joe and Family--Amazing! So you will be checking out of Sunnyview so soon. I know how difficult walking with a walker is from my experience last year. It puts incredible amounts of pressure on your hands (My daughter in law Nina lendt me her biking gloves with padded palms that really helped.) Happy Thanksgiving to you all. With love, Nancy B.

Hello to all the Ferraro's from the Carr's. This is the first chance I've had to check in and read about Joe's amazing progress. So good to hear you have moved on to Sunnyview. Sounds like Joe is making great strides, and I know from hearing Dana's comments how hard (no how grueling) rehab is. Go Joe!

Dana has been waiting at a red light for the last several weeks, but will soon be back on the rehab floor (maybe next week). His left arm should be weight bearing in a couple more weeks, so it will then be time to crank it up.

Joe, the entire Carr (and Lampman) clan continues to pray for you and we wish you a complete recovery. We miss your family and the bond we shared in the AMC waiting room. We're in Atlanta this week (well 10 of us will be here for Thanksgiving).

Anyway, we wish the Ferraro's a very happy Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for this year. Love to you all and our continued prayers and positive energy are coming your way. Take care all of you and hold each other tight.

Linda (and the rest of the clan)

Hi Joe and family,
I feel your pain to some extent after 4 months of rehab myself...but only after knee surgery. I do hope you are able to go home soon and keep up on the rehab there. I'm sure you'll progress in leaps and bounds! Please keep in touch with us here, you are one of our success stories in the flight program. Thank you for making it all worth while on our end.
